Cuss : To use profane or obscene language ( alteration of Curse)

They're words that most people wouldn't want to use in polite company.
Yeah, they're just words... but why not just use the correct term in the first place?

I figure any word that you wouldn't want to use in front of your Mama or Grandma, shouldn't be said in public.

"The foolish and wicked practice of profane cursing and swearing is a vice so mean and low that every person of sense and character detests and despises it." - George Washington

what it really comes down to, on a more philosophical or faith, level is this... certain sounds (that is the construction of vowels with consonants that produce utterable coherent communication) are not by definition bad. to demonstrate i shall use an experience of my own; while speaking spanish to some friends i attempted to say "caballero" but mistakenly said "cabron" the first is a derivative of the term "horseman" meaning gentleman and the second is derived from "cabra" or in english "goat" and means a very foul thing that is among the most insulting comments in the language. my friends knew the intentions of my speech and corrected me (laughingly but) politely.

to curse someone is to speak ill of them or to wish a bad fortune upon them. therefore, if you say 'peanut butter' but what you mean to say is 'butthead' you have cursed to the same degree that one would have been accused if he/she used 'butthead' to start with. also if you mistakenly say a word that is commonly deemed unacceptable, of course by mistake, it is no more powerful than if you had innocently said 'peanut butter'.

i will leave you with this quote from a jewish carpenter, "it is what comes out of the mouth that defiles a man (woman)" and furthermore, "from the abundance of the heart speaks the mouth". combine that with the understanding of "it was not when you killed but when you hated that you were found to have sin" and "in your mouth is the power to speak life and to speak death" as well as "from the same mouth procede blessings and cursings" you will get the point.

do what you can to bless, and the curse, if accidental, wouldn't have come from the heart, and thus there is no power in it.

remember this, bullets couldn't kill without gunpowder. intention is the force behind our actions.

They are considered 'vain' or 'empty' words. There's more to it, but not sure how old you are.
