I wouldn't say "failure" is needed in order to succeed, but making mistakes is. Experience is the best form of education. I started a business 13 years ago. I made a lot of mistakes prior to that and during my business, however, I learned a lot from those mistakes.
Subsequently, I sold my business last year and am now retired at the age of 40.
Success is an option, Failure is not.

Failure keeps one humble. It's important to know what it feels like so you can appreciate success that much more. But failure isn't always a "true" failure if you keep learning and trying.

Trying and failing is part of succeeding. It often takes finding out what does not work in order to find out what does.

It tells us what not to do and what doesn't work so we can better understand what we should and need to do. It also tells us that it is possible to fail, so not to get too cocky about our successes.

It's only good if you learn from your failures and don't let them happen again.
