Well I KNOW the answer to this because I was speaking to a jeweller a couple of days ago.

Okay apparently all white gold is rhodium plated and once that wears off it will stay dull....the only thing you can do is put it into the jewellers to have it rhodium plated again! White gold isn't shiny.

Hi

The majority of my jewellery is White Gold. Earrings, bracelets, necklaces, rings and my engagement and wedding ring. White Gold now is not made as well as used to years ago. Many years ago White Gold was just wiped over with a damp cloth. When I bought my Wedding Ring I asked in the shop how am I to clean it. I was told that White Gold jewellery is coated in Rodium and it must be professionally done. I had my engagement ring Rodium coated so that it was looking brand new for my wedding, it cost me about £20 and it had to be sent away for a week. Take your jewels to a well known jewellers and make sure you will be insured for loss and damage. Get it done professionally. If you like jewellery as much as I do, it's worth paying out for.

Hope this helps

I had similar problem and asked a jeweller who said loudy ammonia the best, and it worked - its cheap and available from supermarkets.

Avoid immersing your gold jewelry in all forms of chlorine, including a pool, hot tub or a household cleaner. Repeated exposure to chlorine can weaken gold's structure, leading to eventual breakage. Soap can build up on gold jewelry causing a dull film and diminishing its gleam. For cleaning, soak gold jewelry in warm water mixed with a few drop of ammonia. Gentle use of an old, soft-bristled toothbrush is useful for more extensive cleaning. After cleaning and rinsing, dry and polish with a soft cloth

Why...... with white gold cleaner!!!! Lol! I have heard you can use a bit of gin, put a bit of gin to cover earrings in a glass, throw in earrings and leave them for a while, swill them about abit to dislodge muck and stuff and then dry with a lint free polishing cloth! They should be all sparkly again, spose you could drink the rest of the gin (not the yak stuff you just cleaned your earrings in but the bottle with the rest in), you would be that drunk you wouldnt care how dull your earrings were!!! Lol, ha ha xxx

White gold doesn't tarnish!? Unless it's been rhodium plated to make it shinier? They do do that sometimes. If you've tried water, have you tried soap & water & a soft old toothbrush? That should be all you need. Or perhaps your boyfriends a cheap skate?

Dissolve a couple of spoons of soda crystals in hot water, wait for it to cool then pour into a small dish lined with tin foil. Put your jewellry into the dish, in a few hours it will be sparkly again.

gold is the only metal that doesnt rust or change colour with age or anything that will spoil other metals. Just wash them in luke warm soapy water and then dry them with a soft cloth. I even leave mine in when having my hair dyed or bleached and it never harmed them.

white gold is plated with a metal called rhodium, this gives it a brilliant shine and over time it wears off. as for cleaning, boiling hot water and salt to stop infections.

white gold is rhodium plated so the rhodim comes off after a while, you'll have to take it to a jewellers so they can do it. it might cost quite a bit depending on the size and that.
