What plants grow well in wet areas?

Question

I am trying to find plants that would grow well in wet areas. Our washing machine waters drains to a spot in our back yard, are there any plants that would be good to plant in this area.

Also, consider Hostas which get really large if they have an abundance of water. Just be careful to plant them with the crown an inch or two above ground level so the plant doesn't rot in the Winter. You could try cannas or crinum, but I would be careful about the continual use of "grey water" in the same area it makes the soil alkaline after awhile, and you may not to be able to grow anything in that area eventually.

Ferns can handle wet areas or if you want a tree, Eucalyptus can handle wet areas too. Plus it is an evergreen. i have seen them grow as far north as n.e. North Carolina into Virginia.

Most tropical plants do well in damp soil. However I would wonder about the affects of the soap from the washer..{?}.

you can try the yucca plant they will grow in anything and are cheap but with soap and bleach others will die
