nice additional comment... as if macs do that...

well even if i assume that you have the right cooling pad. im still going to give you the same answer. but before it do that allow me to ellaborate on the cooling pad. most cooling pads dont give you the option of reversing the air flow, so if your computer is sucking air out from the bottom and the cooling pad is also sucking air from that side....yep, its quite the contradiction.

now about leaving your laptop on. yes it will shorten the life of your battery...not by much, but it will. Second, with your computer fans on all the time, that means more dust, and more dust means more clogs and therefore more fan noise. Third the hotter your Hard Drive is the shorter life expectancy it will have.
but i wouldnt worry about it, since most laptops life span is 7-8 years. you'll end up replacing the battery, hd, and possibly a dc jack/monitor. but im sure that before that time you would have opted to sell your laptop for a umpc or mac.

Cooling pads can do so much but one way or the other it will over heat and die on you.

Yes it will cause the battery to over heat and go flat faster.

it depends if your battery has one of those memory things with it so it will automatically overheat if u charge it alot. and anotherthing is if u have a silver part by the keyboard, and you keep it on it will leave big orange and black burn marks there and will rub of if u put your hands there alot
