I want a word that emphasizes that they are not young adults. Would middle aged work for a group including 27 year olds?

27 middle aged? Naw that doesn't work. How about, "experienced gentlemen" or "pleasantly weathered young men". ;)

No.
'Middle-aged' is generally used for, well, the middle-aged. I think (this is just me) that 'middle-aged' should apply to, oh, I don't know-maybe late 30s to late 40s? 27-36 year old men could probably be described as just 'guys'......
Sorry I don't have a more descriptive word.

Probably not, for I imagine some 27 year olds (or even older) would probably take exception to "middle aged". (not that they should, for people of about twice that age are dying). I would suggest something somewhat tongue in cheek. (Young at heart-- or Mature but still healthy -- no that isn't good--Parents of young children? What is your focus? What is the function? Maybe age should not be the major criterion?

I am 50 and have friends as young as their 20's. I would think a group of "Mature Adults" would suffice.

I'm not far from 27 and I don't want to be middle-aged.

How about calling them - mid 20's to late 40's men?
I think you might want to check out the current life expectancy of men - it might help you with your definition.
