I am trying to rid of weeds (manually, by hand) and am wondering if it is too late to throw seed down . I live outside of Tampa and have let my lawn go. Lots of Crabgrass and others. I want to save money by ridding most of the weeds by hand.
The lawn is patchy and the grass' root system is showing in many places. Is it too late to seed? If so, any suggestions?
My plan was to pull weeds. Plant seed and millorganite. Water as needed. And then, throw down some sort of weed preventer.
The lawn has to look good by late June, due to a prty we are throwing. Thanks for any help you can give.

It's never "too late" to seed; there are just better times of year to do it. :0)

I too have had areas that needed "sprucing up". I recommend seeding and watering. until you get the results you want.

Try to keep your pets/kids from walking in the seed. You may want to lay some grass clippings over the newly seeded areas to keep in the moisture. Make sure you remember to water, that is the key to success!

I would stay away from using weed and feed until your grass is established. Fertilizers and herbicides can burn your new grass.

Bahia likes it hot for germination. It would do best seeded from April, on into June. June is optimum. So, it is definitely not too late to seed Bahia, but getting it up and pretty for your party is another question. And it will take alot of watering to successfully seed Bahia. You know, for those who hate it it comes up all over the place, like a weed but since you want it.... Though the sod is ugly when it first goes down, the most dependable way to establish Bahia in Tampa is sod. In a few weeks it will look good.
