3.05 to 3.08:1 ratio sounds about right and it sucked! And sucked fuel and power. The 307 was a dud engine that never got the economy hoped for and the 3.08 rear end didn't help anything, either. A 3:42 or around there will actually increase pulling power and will probably increase fuel milage, too.

on your pass. side axle tube there should be a stamped in code. This code should be readable from under the car. The axle tube is what connects the center section to the hub. I don't know how many rear-end ratios came out in you car but I would say it's probably 2.72. If your car can do 50mph in first gear it may have 2.50 somethings 2.72's at 5500rpms will get you to about 45mph. 3.08 at 5500rpms 40mph. Don't go beating your car up though. Check the code Look it up in a Chilton's manual at the library

I had a 69 Camaro 307 3-speed stick that came with a .308. I had it changed to .370 which was the largest gears that would fit in the 10 bolt rear end.

There are several options 2:56, 2:73,3:08,3:23,3:73,4:10,4:56 to mention a few. I am doing this from memory and it may not be exact.
Good Luck,
