Playtex heat therapy patches REALLY work. It's the equivalent of having a warm water bottle on your lower abdomen! Just stick one on and it stays put. It really helps. It'll help you function without pain medication.
I copied a link below, just for information. You can get Playtex Heat Therapy at any drugstore.
BUT...lots of heat on the lower abdomen is not really recommended when you're trying to get pregnant. The effects of a lot of concentrated heat/ warmth are unknown and may be a factor in you not getting pregnant.
May I make another suggestion?
If you have painful periods, it could very well be that you are iron deficient. This is something that you should have checked out by your doctor, especially if you're trying to get pregnant! Being anemic is a common condition and all you would have to take is an over-the-counter iron supplement (take it with room temp orange juice to prevent stomach upset).
If you are anemic and then take an iron supplement, your periods will return to a more normal state and the pain will also be significantly reduced.
It'll also help you get pregnant and stay pregnant!!

Depending on the nature of your work - if you have the extreme periods that I have always gotten - try to find a friend who has recently had surgery or has chronic pain and get them to give you a Vicoden/Hydrocodone (similar). Yes, it's illegal to take other people's perscriptions - but if you are like me - I am uninsured and cannot just afford to go to the doctor on every whim. My friend was given lots of hydrocodones during the 7-9th month of pregnancy by her doctor in order to cope with 5 rotting teeth (for some reason pregnancy caused all the calcium to leach out of her teeth, and she eventually had to get dentures - very painful - but they wouldn't operate on her until she had her baby). I'd discuss this with your dr. - it's an extreme suggestion and I have NO idea what this would do to a baby in the first trimester so PLEASE ask a dr. They will make you really tired so do not drive - take the bus - and don't do it if you need to be totally coherent - they make some people REALLY tired. On a more mild level, you'll have to stay away from ibuprofin containing products (contraindicted in pregnancy). So ... crap... that really sucks. I am sorry you are having such difficulty with periods. Try a heating pad or hot water bottle. ALSO try tucking some of those "Hot Hands" in your undies or those Therma Care wraps - spendy but if it saves you from missing a day of work they are worth the $8 or $9 and last up to two days!!

One thing that I feel helpful was advice I got from a massage therapist who did shiatsu massage. There is a pressure point in the webbing between your forefinger and thumb on each side. If you rub that area, it's very helpful to subside. Also, if you have a sitting job, a good plan would be to put a warm water bottle on your abdomen. If not, there are cordless heat patches sold in stores that will stick to your body and are disposable. Most of them last 4-8 hours and are great help. Other than that, drink lots of water, that often will subside your cramps as well.

Drink in a lot of water or taken in a lot of fluids a day or two before you are due. Don’t miss a meal during this time. It is mostly due muscle fatigue or dehydration. You can also look for information in the web. I found this website very useful. http://aches.in/cramps.html

2 days before you expect your period, take Alieve or Ibuprofen, and keep taking it during your period. It is an anti spasmodic.
Also, an orgasm will relax the uterus.
