ok, everybody knows the devils have marty brodeur and he starts most all of the games (32 in a row) but does anyone else think they should let scott clemmensen play a little more during the regular season? he's a great goalie but only get's 3 or 4 starts a year and he usually looses those games because he's rusty. he is a great goalie and i think that if he played with another team he could be a starter, instead of a backup

Hey I love Marty. Clemmensen finally started a game today and he won it. He did a pretty darn good job too. As for him being good enough for a starter, I don't think so. He is a great backup, however, he should get more oppurtunities. Maybe not with the Devils but with teams that need a solid two-goalie set-up. A team that has a decent goalie and to put Clemmensen would be fine. I think the Devils will trade Clemmensen for a draft pick or something and bring up Jordan Parise from the minors, if he's good enough. But, really, I love Clemmensen. Don't get me wrong. But he would have a longer future with someone else. If he chooses to stay with the Devils as a backup, I will have the upmost respect for him. He is a god-like backup, which is still pretty good. When you are a Devil goalie you basically know you are not going to play more than about 10 games. That's what happened with Mike Dunham and Corey Schwab and Ari Ahonen. Ari Ahonen is good enough to be a starter, so he left the Devils and God knows what happened to him lol. But Mike Dunham went to Nashville as a starter and he was great, then to New York and was still great. Now his career is dying down but he was a pretty good goalie, except he stayed with New Jersey for a good while before his career started up. Clemmensen decided to stay with New Jersey knowing well that he will be the back-up to Marty Brodeur. I respect him to a ridiculously high amount. Go Devils? =) Oh yeah!

Actually Brodeur may be doing Clemmenson a favor. He is an unknown commodity and speculation is that he is very good. Sounds a lot like Dunham! He got a far better deal simply because he was never exposed then he might have gotten otherwise and Clemmenson might find the same thing will happen for him even though he hasnt proven himself. The Preds paid him starter dollars before he proved anything, and he turned out to be an average goalie. Clemmenson may very well turn out to be an incredible goalie for all we know but how many guys get backup money when picked up by another team and play way above the deal. They cant get out of it (think Mikka Kiprosoff... had a minimum deal when he was traded and had to wait to get paid right). Brodeur gets the right to ask for as many games per year as he wishes, he has earned that right.

Brodeur is the man! The only concern I would have is chancing injury. With that many games played and nearing the playoffs your risking fatigue and a possable season ending injury. The Devils have been a force in the league for years now with 3 cups (Wings 95- Stars 2000- Ducks 03)and 4 appearances since 1995 and i'm sorry, but if Brodeur goes down ,the Devils go down.
B.T.W. the 01 Borque cup was a bunch of crap! I'm happy for Ray ,but c'mon now. N.J.Devils were clearly the better team. The Avs even retired his jersey.....Thats so RIDICULOUS!

I think Brodeur is so elite that it would be detrimental for him to not be playing. I think if he did not play as much he would be worse. I think he is one of those players that just needs to play. Clemmenson seems to be a good goalie, but he is the Jim Sorgi of hockey. It is all about what he wants out of his career. If he wants multiple rings but no playing time, he should stay with the Devils. If he wants playing time he can start for a team like Columbus. Having seen him play on the two or three nights a season he starts, I would say he is not a goalie that could lead a team to the Cup, but would be solid during the season. Go Devils.

I think its not really between how good he is, but Brodeur has been on his game. If he rested a game, then he might get cold. Its knindof like Emery in Ottawa. He got a 3 game suspension, and he went from on fire, to very rust. Sometimes it only takes sitting a game or two, for goalies to get off their game. They dont want to risk that with Marty, he is doing to good to risk that hot streak.

If it's not broken, don't fix it. Brodeur is the best there is, I wouldn't ever want to spoil that by letting HIM get rusty sitting on the bench. Wouldn't you rather your starter win games for you, rather than letting the backup sit in more games just to lose (even though he'd be improving) The season's standings are too tight to let games go just to improve one guy.

If somebody paid me six or seven figures to play 5 games a year and maybe get my name on the Stanley Cup I'd do it.

But yeah, sometimes I wish Marty would play more like 65 games per year. That way he could have a longer career. But then he wouldn't get all of the records I suppose. It's hard to ever bench a guy as good as Marty.

The devils did good and made it to the finals, however the kings this year have been astounding. specific, I believe you, the devil could bow right down to the king. See what i did there?

im not a devils fan but i do kno that brodeur enjoys his days off. i say that to give him wat he wants just because hes such a big contributer to the team. then maybe everyonce and a while after a devils loss give scott a chance and if not the bruins would gladly take him
