There's this building which contains a lot of books. It's called a "Library". Most cities have at least one. Try going there.

Additional: Contrary to the belief of the girl below me, there is a lot a librarian can find out for you. They have many resources at their disposal and might be able to help you even if the book is in a language other than English.

Your best bet is to find a book appraiser in your area and have them look at it. They will be able to tell you where to look for info and maybe even where to get it translated.
If you can't find one in your area, your local library is your next best bet. Librarians have access to a lot of resources, but a college or university library would be better than a small town public library. Something else you might consider is if there is a University in your area, you might try calling the Languages department and see if there is someone who speaks German who could tell you what kind of book it is and where you might look for information.

Well, considering the age of the novel and the fact that it's in German, going to that wonderful place called the "Library" probably isn't going to yield too many results.

My suggestion? If you can't find it online, contact an antique dealer or a used book store. Big chains like barnes and nobles might be able to help, but if it isn't in their computer, theiy're pretty much useless.

Is it by any chance a prayer book? If so, try religious book stores--again, not big chains like Berea or Family Christian, but if there's a prominient Catholic church around, chances are close by will be a Catholic bookstore than may be able to help.

Hope this helps!
