Hi there, I'm bottle feeding my 3-month old daughter and she has been having Similac ever since. But since she's gagging pretty often, and sometimes even throw up the entire meal (usually 3 oz), doctor suggested Enfamil Thickened. She's had it for a few days and now she's refusing it very strongly. My girl was born 6lbs12, discharged at 6lbs2, and she has reached her 3month now, but only weighs 10lbs 8, I know as long as she's happy and healthy, there should be little worry. (as doc explained she's growing, but only on the 25th percentile) But still, I'd like to have my daughter gain weight in a more obvious way. Every feeding is like a struggle for us. She'd take in the first or two oz, then i burped her, then won't go back, no matter what i do,If i try to have her eat a bit more, she would start screaming and kicking....what's wrong? Should I give her the formula for premature baby with more calories? Would you also suspect my girl is intolerant to milk product? so helpless..

Many children are small by nature. And often girls do not eat much. All three of my children went through eating problems at 3m. I nursed them all. But still they would go through a period where they would not want to eat enough. As a nursing mother pain forces you to keep trying to force them to eat. I don't know what it is with your daughter, but it may be normal.
It's also normal to have a lot of spitting up and throwing up. Even up until they start eating food.

Well maybe two ounces is all she wants at a time. You can't really force them to eat. As long as she's gaining i wouldn't worry about it to much. Now, if she's having gas or being constipated then that would be a definate sign of intolerance. My son stayed at three ounces for a long time and never took more than 6 ounces. He had colic very bad. You should really only give them solids at 4 months. At this point I would just watch and see, as long as she's gaining. By next month you can start giving her cereal, fruit and even some veggies. Definately keep your doc updated if you see any big changes. Also, watch to make sure she's wetting and pooping her diapers normally. My son always had a couple bm's a day at first and of course was wet all the time!

Wow, I feel sorry for you, that has to be so frustrating. If the doctor says that she is growing alright don't force her to eat, she could have problems with weight issues later or food fears. She might have a reflux problem and it goes down alot slower and so she feels like she is full before it hits her stomach. You might want to wait about 20 minutes after you burp her and feed her again. I know you will be feeding her all the time, but if she is underweight you might want to try it.
Good luck

I was told by my son's doctor that when a baby spits up, even though it looks like they are spitting up the whole feeding, they are actually not doing so. Most of what comes up is mucus from their stomach. My son was a preemie and had severe Acid Reflux and projectile vomited 3-6 times a day after feedings and he still gained weight.

Something is very very wrong. Please take her to the emergency room and get her another doctor. A 3 month old child should weight a lot more than almost 11 pounds. My son weighed 12 pounds at 6 weeks.

You baby my have some internal problems, not just an allergy to formula. Babies can have all sorts of digestive problems.

Please do take her to the doctor immediately.

Failure to thrive is a big issue with babies and she needs medical care.

I breastfed my son for the first 6 months then ran dry, I tried enfamil and my son tossed it up almost immediately then I tried simlac and he hated it... i would try nestle goodstart, my son not only took to it he loved it so much. If she still is spitting it out i would definitely go to the docs and see if she is milk intolerant. Sorry and I hope everything gets better for you. goodluck

i understand how you feel i have a small baby too she is only in the 20th percentile at 14.7 lbs at 8 months but as long as your baby is still eating and on a steady growth curve you are doing everything right
