Iv'e been watching a film and they mentioned a sloppy joe? I have heard it in several american programmes, can anyone enlighten me?

A "Sloppy Joe" is an open-faced hamburger bun with browned hamburger meat in a barbeque-like tomato sauce slopped over it. It is a kind of hot sandwich. In North America there is a canned sauce called Sloppy Joe sauce already prepared that you mix with the cooked meat, but it can be made from scratch with ketchup and BBQ sauce and onions, garlic and spices.
It's "sloppy" because it's impossible to pick up and is very messy to eat, you have to use a fork.

A Sloppy Joe is a rather large, shapeless jumper or sweater which used to be worn in England with drainpipe trousers and sneakers in the late 50s/early 60s!!!

A sloppy joe is a kind of sandwich made with sloppy joe mix(kind of tomoto sauce) and hamburger and you put the mixture on a hamburger bun...

It's obviously something very different in America. I used to have a sloppy joe (English version). It was a big baggy jumper!

A hamburger mixed with tomato sauce...Sort of like meat sauce with more burger in it on a bun.

you brown ground beef, then you dump a bunch of barbeque sauce on it. as well as your desired seasoning....some people add chopped onion for flavor as well...then you put it on a bun and eat up...yum yum....in fact i made them last night for supper lol
