Connect the red clamp to the positive and the black clamp to the negative on the battery. (indicated by + and -) MAKE SURE that you don't allow the unconnected metal pieces to touch each other. Once all four clamps are connected, attempt to start the car that is dead. If it doesn't work immediately, you can wait for a while to let the battery charge. Leave the car you are using to jump the dead car running while you do this. (Hope you never get stuck having to do it)

first you need jumper cables...
next you open the hoods of both cars locating the battery.
next you place the positive(red) clamp/cable on the (+) positive of the battery. then place the black clamp/cable on the negative (-) of the battery. then next go to other car and battery and do the same.
the running car should be on, at this point....
turn everything off, radio, lights, heater,a/c,(of the dead car) and turn the key of the dead car. if the battery is really dead, you may need to wait a minute and try agian.
you should change your car battery every 3 or 4 years.

Usually when a battery is dead it is because of using it right then and there, the ongoing electrochemical reaction that is occurring in the battery produces Hydrogen gas, that it VERY explosive and dangerous if you produce a spark near it so when connecting car batteries as to jump start a dead battery car, the positives get connected first (jump car to dead car) then, as you have been so far advised herein, the negative of the jump car to the dead car onto a 'grounding point' on the dead cars engine...

NOT to the negative battery terminal of the dead battery as that is where you bring in the risk of exploding your battery, lead shrapnel and acid flying about. (not pretty)

Please be careful in your actions! and in your advice!

1st you need a pair of jumper cables, 2nd, when a car battery goes dead you need a live car, 3rd you need to take one side of the jumper cable and hook it up to the pos. and nev, end of the battery, do so on the other car. then you start your car let it set for a while not to long. then tell the other driver to try to start their car. thats how i was showen. i've done it so many time helping people out and work every time. just becareful.

conect the positive to positive on both cars, connect the negative on the running car to a solid ground, engine bolt, etc. on the dead car, turn on the headlights of the dead car and crank away, the lights will help to absorb the surge once the engine starts thus protentially protecting the computer.

open both cars hoods,
run the car of providing engine
plug black or neg to neg terminal of the battery of providing car
plug red to the pos to pos terminal of the battery of providing car
then plug negative line to jumping car battery terminal
then plug red or pos to pos battery terminal
then turn the jumping cars key
when engine run take negative of either line off from the battery
then take red off

remember never to tuch positive and negative line togeather, it will spark and heat up, will not kill you but will shock you really good

simply hook the positive cable on the good battery to the positive on the dead one. Then hook up the negative post from the good battery to a ground anywhere on the car of the dead one, or hook it to the negative post on the dead battery.
