i've heard snow tires*studded tires* are illegal in ny... Does anyone know if thats true?

i don't know but i would believe it. they are illegal here in sd as well. so is chaining your tires....it's not legal because doing those things to tires ruins the streets, causes pot holes etc....

I don't know about US laws, but I can tell you that studded or part -studded tyres use tungsten-carbide steel "studs," which are the same material as drill-bits and hard chisels. They absolutely destroy tarmacadam when the snow and ice melts away, or when the tyres cut through the white stuff to the black stuff.

i own a repair shop,and i have heard the same thing about other states also,I'm not sure if there's any truth to it though,i cant see why they would be against the law to have on,it don't look like they could hurt anything,you might try looking up your states governing laws ,and this might help you some with it,good luck on it.
