Is there a way to install/play a PC game for Windows 2000 on a Windows XP machine?

I installed the game (Diablo II), but when I start it, I get a black screen and can't get out of it. When I Ctrl-Alt-Del, I see the mouse, but nothing else. I have to restart the computer.

goto the makers site usually they have patches for older games to run on newer systems
