Over the years, the Detroit Lions have been a poor performing team. For this question, you are making the draft call for the Lions in 2007. Should they take the second pick? If your view is that they should, why and who do you take? Should they trade the pick away? If your view is that they should, why and what deal do you make?

they should trade back, possibly to six or seven, and pick up and extra second round and a couple of other late round picks, they really need a good ol and Thomas might still be there at six,and they need help on defense, nelson out of Florida is one hell of an athlete,or the back out of cal,and a speed rusher on the end,the Tampa 2 only works if you have a freeny, derrick brooks type of guy out there to get to the QB.

Despite what a lot of people think, they should NOT get a quarterback this draft. None of the ones available will fit in well with Mike Martz's system at all, especially Quinn and Russell. Quinn isn't accurate enough, and Russell has not proven that he is a great quarterback in his own right (the man had a terrific group surrounding him). Besides, Kitna is finally getting a feel for the system, and the biggest reason for most of his struggles was (gasp!) poor route running and timing by his wide recievers.

They could pick a wide reciever.... but there's just too much history to go through that door again, even if CJ is available.

Which leaves me thinking that they have to either trade the pick for a proven quarterback who could run the system (Jeff Garcia would be good) or a defensive player, or draft a defensive player. I would draft defense, and I would go with either the top linebacker or safety available. I won't name any names right now, not until after this weeks combine. But that is where they need to focus, and maybe they can do the right thing and get some solid characters on this air headed squad.

ps: If Ginn or Jarret are available at the start of the second round, thats where they need to go.

Being a diehard Cowboys fan and a graduate of the Jimmy Johnson school of General Management, here's your best answer.,

Never pass on a QB who has been marked as "can't miss": This draft doesn't have one that high, the Lions may get lucky at QB in the low rounds.

WR's should be band from being top picks, look how many no-name receivers make names for themselves.

RB, RB, RB.......the lions need somebody who can eat up yards. And this is a RB draft. Don't worry about Jones, because worst case scenario they can run a tandem. Look at the Texans passing on Bush, because of Domanic Davis.......damn that had to hurt.

They SHOULD pick the tackle out of Wisconsin. HOWEVER, they will be stupid and pick Brady Quinn. Over the next four years, Brady Quinn will:
-be inserted into the starting line-up within the first year
-get sacked more times than anyone because of the Lions horrid line
-have a worse losing percentage than anyone in Lions history (ANYONE)
-get booed out of Detroit, leaving fans to wonder why management picked "that douchebag".

And there is no ******* way I'm watching the Lions if they sign that *****, Jeff Garcia!

Pick Joe Thomas. They need a line. Kitna is getting a feel for the offense and if he had time to throw and Kevin Jones had room to run they would be dangerous. Pick Thomas and then maybe Justin Blalock in the 2nd Round if he's avaliable. Start building their line up. Mike Martz can make his offense work anywhere if he has a line.

I can't see them take Calvin Johnson, because of their other WR 1st round picks have been bust besides Roy, I would suggest they pick a OT in the draft or maybe a TE. I take this choice because I believe they might wait until the second or third round to take somebody like Drew Stanton or Troy Smith

The Lions should try to trade quality for quantity. They won't fix their team with the #2 pick. They should trade back and try to get a few more early first rounders.

Brady Quinn, Kevin Jones is getting better at RB, although he suffered a big injury late in the season, we all know about their WR, OL can be taken in 2-3rd rounds. As someone pointed out, Kitna is old.

They should trade down if possible and get more picks. They have many needs, but the #1 need is a offensive line.
