I agree with you.
~It is not the dog, it is the owner. And yes, small dogs are very agressive. ~

~Pitbulls can be very sweet and affectionate, like EVERY OTHER dog in the world. However, certain owners mistreat the animals; not just Pitt's. Abuse, neglect, starvation and other abusive treatments create regressed feelings within the dogs brain. Those regressed feelings explode, resulting in an attach. Banning Pittbulls is NOT THE ANSWER. Dog owners need to be screened and screened EFFICIENTLY.
~If banning Pittbulls is so nessasary, why not ban all dogs? Any dog can and will attach. How about cats? More people are hurt by cats than dogs EVERY DAY. But do we hear about it> No. And why not????

~Pittbulls arent the problem. The owner of the "mean" dog is the problem
~Pittbulls are not the only dogs trained for security, hunting, etc.
~German Shepard
~Beagle
~Rottwieler
~Jack Russell
~Poodle both small and standard
~Shall we list them ALL?
~Pittbulls are just singled out, because of the locking mechanism in their jaw. So what? A person can die from any dog attach, not just a Pitt attach. Unfortunatley, some Pittbull owners choose this type of breed just for looks and showing off that they have a scary dog. Those are usually the dogs that hurt people, because they are mistreated in the ways I listed above.

~♥~ I am supportive with you on this cause. I too, know many sweet friendly Pittbulls who have not and never will hurt any body! They have wonderful owners as well.

~I just want to add that years ago my Gramma had a nasty mean dog. He loved attention but when youd stop petting him, he would nip. He would bite kids, chase the mail man, bare his teeth... ooh that dog was nasty. But guess why?
Gramma never pet him.. She fed him, bathed him, walked him, talked to him. But she never sat and pet him, ever. The vet told her several times that he needed physical attention from her, not just all the people who would pet him when they would go to her house to visit. Gramma just didnt like touching dogs. guess what the breed was? ~*~ A multipoo ~*~ Part poodle, shitsu and something else. A small dog. But as mean as a big dog.

Some breeds are far more aggressive than others and the pack instinct is
more strongly inbred in some breeds. The pit bull was specifically bred
with several instincts and body configurations in mind. You've probably
never seen innocent humans attacked or known them [especially by 2 or more pits]. It's common for pit lovers to covet highly slanted accounts and reason's for pit attacks much the same as an alcoholic or addict covets their
make believe version of why for their own actions. This human behavior of
denial is even seen in politics where many want to defend their party or
candidate so THEY won't be "wrong".
The pit is a man made error, which has such a long and horrid verifiable history of attacking unprovoked, killing, maiming, etc. etc. that if it were legal
for people to shoot them on sight [even in towns] and kill them at will that
the breed would be borderline extinct except for the protection of the pit's
owners and laws against such retaliation. Timber wolves are nice to "their
pact/family members" also. The Adult Pit's aggression to kill is so awful that
police departments avoid them.

While it's true that any dog can turn on a person, for any reason or none at all, Pit Bulls have gotten some bad press. When getting insurance for my new home, my agent asked me if I had any pets. When I told her I had a dog, she wanted to know what kind. I told her I had a Sheltie. She said that there are certain dogs that the insurance companies charge extra for on their policies. Pit Bulls, German Shepherds, Dobermen, Husky's, one other large breed were mentioned on their list of high risk breeds. In my life, I've been bitten or nipped by several different breeds, several that aren't on the high risk breeds list. One time, I was talking to a neighbor, across her 4 foot cyclone fence. I had my arms folded, talking to her, with her Great Dane by her side. This animal knew me, and I'd even been in their house visiting them. But, for no reason, she (the dog!) reaches across the fence and grabbed my arm, just breaking the skin. I waited for her to let go, which she did, and I have no reason why she felt that I was a threat. But, this happens to even the most well-trained animal. My sister-in-law used to have a Taco Bell dog (can't spell the breed!) and that thing bit more people than any dog I'd ever known. They eventually had to put it asleep when it attacked her two year old son. Dogs have their bad days, just like people. <*)))><

No, I don't think pit bulls are vicious dogs by nature at all.
Mine is 10 years old, and I've had him since he was a pup and he is the sweetest thing ever.
Dogs that are physically capable of harming people tend to be used in a way where they are trained to attack and fight.
All dog breeds have some aggression in them. Have you ever seen the ankle-biting dogs when they lose it? One should be grateful they don't have the strength of a pitbull or size of a rottweiler.
People are just ignorant and uneducated, they are very quick to label something as bad and run with it.
I live in Chicago and there are a lot of people that I see now - young and older - who are adopting pitbulls from the shelters and every one of them that I spoke to swears that this is just about the best dog they have owned.
I also love their "a little sad" faces and great bodies. They're gorgeous dogs and good companions. People are doing them a great wrong.

no they are just like any other dog. They are only as mean as someone makes them. Sadly this breed is made mean because people like to fight them more so than others. It's these peoples faults not the dogs. When pit bulls fight it tends to be more brutal. The attacks are with the intention to kill the victim. The jaw is supposedly wicked strong and almost impossible to unlock. This is why people have a problem with them I guess. I don't get it though either because you can make any type of dog this mean if you really wanted to. It's just breed discrimination and it's wrong.

There is a town nearby where I live that had people breeding pit bulls to be mean and the people that owned them would walk them in town to intimidate people they didn't like so now nobody can walk their dogs at all in town.In many cases pit bulls have been known to be mean, but it's usually thanks to the owners and how they were raised.

Any breed with so much inbreeding is going to have aggressive tendencies. I personally would not own a pit bull even though I believe it is definitely more the owners fault than the dogs.

It all comes down to the owner. Oh and it has been discovered that through the past twenty years, pit bulls have actually developed a fighting gene and it's all our fault... We did this and now it is inherent and will never go away... Did you know that 80% of Dalmatians are born deaf because of over breeding?

I think it's stupid how they have a bad rap. I don't think pit bulls are born mean and violent but the owner that abuses them therefore making them that way.
I know what you mean about the small dogs though. Most of the ones I know have some serious problems. Then again the small dogs owner's are some weird people.

I think that you should have to earn the right to own any powerful breed of dog. It is true that some breeds are more prone to being aggressive. Unfortunately the larger breeds get more attention because they do way more damage. It is not fair for someone else to be attacked by a dog which has an irresponsible owner. I am well informed : I own a cane corso.
