I don't know what you mean by "outdated."

The significant issue is not the marriage; for two people who are in love, committed and emotionally mature, the marriage is a minor detail.

What matters is whether you can keep the relationship together.

We've been happily married 36 years, and I guarantee you, some of the key elements of a successful relationship - married or otherwise - are:

1) A long list of common interests; things you both enjoy doing TOGETHER as opposed to separate interests and separate groups of friends.

2) A lot of tolerance for each other's differences. As much as you share in common, you're still going to rub one another wrong from time to time. Be mature and deal with it. Separate the small $h!t from the serious stuff.

3) A sense of compromise; so that you can work out your problems with a minimum of emotional trauma. It's marital negotiation.

4) A sense of sympathy and forgiveness, for, as I said, you're both going to screw up on occasion. You need to be able to forgive, forget, and move on with the relationship.

The 1950's style marrage (husband works, wife stays home) is outdated (here in New York City almost NOBODY lives like that anymore - since my city is always a generation ahead of the rest of the country our present is your future).

There will always be domestic partnerships - but as time goes on and women get more economic and social freedom, they will be way different than what we have now!

Society has made a mockery of marriage. I don't think it's outdated. I just think that people don't take it seriously - since a divorce is always the easy way out.

Marriage isn't as sacred as it used to be. Now people belittle it saying it's just a piece of paper. Nobody takes their marriage vows seriously anymore. It's sad. So I do agree with you to another extent about marriage being outdated.

I tried it - thought it was the best thing ever for about a year - then it went downhill and I was divorced 3 years from getting married. He had slept with one of his pupils and to me that was unforgivable.

Saying that, his Grandma and Grandad were married for over 60 years and still loved each other. I recently played for a 70th wedding anniversary.

I think it depends on how sucked in to modern culture you are. It still siuts some but not others.

To start, isn't the The Infamous Vinnie G a pillock? New York is a generation ahead of everyone else....If our future is to have people talking out of there arses, then the future is not pretty!

As to Marriage, it scares me, mine was small, as the idea of one of these big flash expensive things is too much, but the state of matrimony is not a bad thing to me, as how else do you introduce the person you live with to people, it's so much easier to say this is my wife, rather than this is my partner, or other half, or temptation I live in sin with...

Marriage is a good thing as long as you have a good partner in which you have some things in common

i think marriage is still a good thing ...it's just that in today's world alot of people have experienced or been through terrible divorces, or simply have been enjoying they're freedom to be with who ever they want. which is why many people don't believe in marriage anymore.
