The reason they get so many people watching them is simple. It is the only club in Newcastle. Every other big city has at least 2 teams.....Liverpool Glasgow Manchester Birmingham London Bristol Sheffield......etc etc Big teams win trophies Newcastle never have and never will win anything........

Newcastle United definitely are a big club. They have incredible support from Newcastle and from lots of places around the world. There are not many reasons why anyone should think they aren't big. Perhaps only rivals like Middlesbrough and Sunderland would feel this way. I myself dislike Manchester United (no offence here) because I follow City.
There's more to football than trophies. Every team is great in a way. Newcastle are big because their followers made them big.

Because they are, in relation to all the teams in this entire world. They play in the top division in England, one of the most popular leagues in the world. So, of course some people are going to say that Newcastle are a big club. But in relations to teams such as Barcelona, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Real Madrid, they might not be considered so big. It just depends on how one looks at it, I guess.

That just proves it, you do not have to win trophies to have loyal fans, a lot of people support a team because they win trophies all the time. A lot of clubs wish they had the support that Newcastle have got, it would be nice for them to win something, but time will tell. UP THE TOON

For a team that hasn't won anything since 1969, taking over 5,000 fans to Wigan for a relatively meaningless match for Newcastle anyhow on a Sunday lunch time says everything you need to know how big a club they are. Chelsea and Arsenal wouldn't take that even though they have won lots of trophies recently. Man U could but Wigan is on their doorstep.

theres not another club in England that would still be getting 50.000 every home game if they`d watched the crap we have over the last five years... success wise we are not a big club...but crowd and status in the game we are..if we weren`t you wouldn`t feel the need to come on here making pathetic statements

pop of liverpool...1,157,673

pop of Birmingham...2,284,093

pop of glasgow...2,300,000

pop of Manchester...2,240,230

population of Newcastle...799,000.

this blows your one city club argument right out the water...we could reduce Newcastles population further as these figures include the surronding areas...and south tyneside is half Sunderland supporters...

In a way, their team is a big club. Especially in recent years. I've got a funny feeling they'll win the UEFA Cup.

P.S. Newcastle have actually won something, 60 something years ago so get your facts right.

N U F C are a big club the fact we have never won a major trophy since 1969 is heartbreaking for us Geordie's the fact that st James' park is full week after week says it all I'll bet you could count the empty seats in your ground if the situation was reversed. I notice you didn't say which club you supported why was that embarrassed?.

Were big because we`ve got some of the most passionate and loyal fans in the world! The other so called big teams are only so big because of the glory supporters.

NUFC fans live in cuckoo land.

When was the last time they won a trophy, Was it 1969?

All the big players come to NUFC, they say?
Well, name them all to yourselves, exactly?

Unfortunately, to be called a big club, you need to win trophies, (you know, those silver pots).

Middlesborough have won more things than you in the last 25 years.

Don't be too hard on them, there's nothing else to do in Newcastle! Who would want to go there, and for what?
