So Windows has no control over the case LEDs? I'm curious as to what happens when you hibernate Windows XP, because when click hibernate, the power led turns off while windows is saving its current state and the hdd led continues to work until the system is completely off. In this case, what controls the turning off of the power led?

The power is controlled by 2 things the power supply and the chipset on the board, whether you running a PC100/133 or Dimm board, it is set in the configuration on the board, and there are resistors and diodes that like in fuses than control the flow and amounts needed, the LED lights on HDD, the on/off switches, floppy drive and other external lights are wired onto the MB or are set by the supplied unit itself, scripting is not a way to control them, if like me you have a light aversion at night, the best way short of turning the computer off, is put it out in another room, I live in a small apartment so I hear the wurring and see the lights, I turn off my monitor, external HDD, speakers and the NUM LOCK on the keyboard, if the front lights are a problem there are covers you can buy to defuse the lights, but they never can be shut down completely unless you open the case and unplug them and they are to important to be fooling with, they do sell desks with a cabinet so you can close them off, but make sure there is air flow or the heat build up could ruin the insides, fans and ventilation are important to the running of your computer.

what controls the LED and PC power is the motherboard and the power supply. then you get into specifics which are that the signal sent out to power on your computer is monitored by the cmos battery. you cant get a script to turn it on but you can get a script to turn it off. if you want to turn it on using a remote control make a receiver chip and connect it to the usual jumper pins then simply press the power button and there.

As far as I know, you cannot make a script to turn them off or on..

I believe they are controlled by the BIOS and you would have to pay out the rear to get a bios editor that will work.
