Because they are a pest and also that they could present a serious challenge to many Queensland politicians. Their popularity and intellectual advantage could actually mean that QLD could be governed by rabbits in just a short time. That is the real reason for the ban, believe nothing else! (And don't ask me to 'please explain'!)

Rabbits are one of Australia’s major agricultural and environmental pests, costing between $600 million and $1 billion annually
In Queensland alone, control of rabbits is estimated to cost the sheep and cattle industries in excess of $2 million per annum.” The new Act continues to recognise that wild rabbit plagues threaten the livelihood of many rural landholders, causing considerable losses to agricultural industries including grain and vegetable crops,
Rabbits are an introduced species that have a major adverse impact on the environment as a whole and Australia’s native flora and fauna.
Rabbits compete with native animals and are a primary cause of soil erosion,

hi, well as a south aussie, all you need to do is look at a bunny infested area! they denude an area very quickly, breed like....rabbits! and new growth and young trees just die from the abuse. also if you have ever been out on a horse thats gone down a bunny hole and hurt itself, you would realise they are not so cute.
it is very cruel to actually keep a bunny in a small mossie mesh cage, but with calici virus being spread, plus myxomatosis too, its worse to see them die of either. go for a guinea pig. they dont have the fur and grooming issues unless you buy a longhair(.and don,t get these viruses.) they can get scurvy! always feed fresh vegies along with any dry diet, regardless of the "complete food" claims on the packs!

Because Queensland have a terrible wild rabbit problem. A lot of people are reckless with their animals and if your rabbit got out it would become ferral and cause havoc.

Rabbits are like cane toads. I like them both.
Both come from overseas and have plagued our country destroying farmland and from my point of view our plants and animals.
I had a bunny when I was a baby in Wales. I loved it. They are terrific but As Queensland suffers most from these "pests" as they are here I can understand why they are banned.

They're a pest. They dont belong in Australia so dont contribute to the problem.
