Check to see if you can get a "tow away zone" sign posted by your local "Roam" towing. This way, any car illegally parked can be towed at the owner's expense. Next time it parks in your drive, call the tow company. After they pay large fees to get their car back, they will stop parking in your drive.

The police are taking the p**s of you,so they can have an easy time it is there duty to take action at your request.
If you are the owner/landlord of property you are within your rights to ask the police to have the car removed.
The police are trying to fool you with the old its private property its not our responsibility,if so why do they arrest shoplifters on private property.
The answer is simple, the police must have a complaint from the owner to persue anything on private land.
So when you call them because you have made a complaint they should deal with it ,unfortunately they are using the fact you don't know this to save them hassle.
The person parking his/her car knows the place is empty and most probably does'nt realise they are upsetting anyone.
So for now be pleasant, write a polite note put it in something waterproof and put it under there windscreen wiper.
Just politely say that they are parking illegally on private property, and could they please not park here in future.
If the car continues to park here after 7 days the car maybe clamped or the police will be called to remove the car.
And with this the police will charge a towing and impound fee till the car is claimed.
Also the police may take legal action against the owner of the car.
As i said the owner of the car may not have intended to offend anyone, and with a polite warning will most probably stop parking on the drive.
If possible for the future put a long padlocked chain across the drive and this won't happen again.
And in future you will know the police do have to do there job ,even on private property.

In fact the police can help you if you make a formal complaint of trespass upon your property whether or not it is a private driveway. If you got into your car and were drunk and were going to drive and the car was still on your driveway you could still be charged with being drunk in charge of a vehicle. I would suggest you find out who owns the car and have them charged with trespassing. I am not sure if you need to put up a notice first warning of trespassing. It may be something you need to take to the local court as a civil matter. English Law can be vague.

I know how you feel, where I used to live there was an old ford escort parked on my space, tires going flat etc. The police wouldnt help as it was on private property. I even reported it to the DVLA as the tax disc was well out of date and again, they did nothing about it. Eventually it went, think it was towed away but it did hack me off seeing it there for months on end. Was so tempted to smash the windows etc. Someone mentioned calling a company to get it towed away, I tried that with yet again no luck! Hope you get it sorted out x

You MUST post a sign stating that the drive is private property and that vehicles parked there will be towed away. If it's parked there again, you have the right to have it removed - if I'm correct, you may also sell the vehicle to cover towing costs - but I would check that to make sure.
Bear in mind, that if you don't post the notice and have it removed, this is considered theft.

First of all, I would do whatever I needed to do to determine WHO the car belongs to. I would politely inform the owner that this is private property and ask him/her not to park in your drive. If that doesn't work. you can always place a spike strip or 5# of visible nails on the drive until he gets the message; then remove the hazard. Some things, you just have to do yourself.

I used to know this guy who would leave a notice on the cars. He would first spray the windshield directly in front of the drivers eyes with a spray on adhesive, then he would attach the note onto the adhesive, making it a real pain to remove. He never had to do the same car twice.

Put a notice up saying private driveway ; anyione parking there will be clamped and there will be a £200 fee for removal. If they do it again after that fit a wheel clamp or better still aska wheel clamping company to do it for you.

put up a sign warning that it is private property and that unauthorised parking is not allowed and that cars are liable to be clamped and/or towed away. there may be some security companies that can help you do this.
or just get a battered unroadworthy old car and put it in your driveway to stop them
or seek legal advice
