First a significant water change is in order. Use a gravel vacuum and vacuum the gravel. There is most likely a dead spot in the gravel bed responsible for the build up so cleaning that spot will get rid of the bacteria causing the problem. Be careful not to stir the gravel too much in the process as releasing too much of the gas at once will kill the fish. H2S will degass readily with enough water motion, so once you do a 50% water change and clean the gravel bed add an airstone to the tank and it will drive off the remainder.

They have a broken fish bladder. This helps their ability to swim and fliter unclean water. So I would take the fish out and buy a new tank with new water. Other Wise they will die soon. The rotten egg smell is coming from the Hydrogen Sulfide not being purified and absorbed.

what sort of scent is it? A healthful wide-unfold aquarium could have little or no scent, or it ought to scent a touch earthy, like shrink grass, yet you may in basic terms scent this once you stick your nostril close to the water line. If, in spite of the undeniable fact that, you may scent it without intentionally sniffing it and it extremely is greater of a rotten egg type scent, it extremely is ammonia and potential you should do a water attempt (see how undesirable the area is) then a 50% water substitute asap to comprise a gravel vac to get rid of any uneaten food.

Water changes. I assume you have a filter. Your ammonia levels are probably at deadly levels in an uncycled tank. How long has it been up and running? How large is it? What's in it? API Ammo-Lock could help. http://www.aquariumpharm.com/en_us/index.asp#
