west coast rappers tend to lean towards gangsta rap cause gang violence in west side is higher and west coast excelled in gangsta rap and made it. for example ice cube, ice t, dr dre, snoop, the game all them boys
east tends to be more about pure hardcore hip hop cause new york is where hip hop came from, for example wu tang, mobb deep before 2002, raekwon, biggie

East Coast rappers think they are more superior since rap was first created in New York, most of them only care about lyrical content and they hate Southern rappers. West Coast are more about having a good time and partying and also that's where gangster rap came from.

The different style and beats is what sets them apart! I personally am a "down south chick", so I like the southern rappers like Luda, Trick Daddy, Eight Ball & MJG, T.I., Lil John, etc.
