why is it bad to desire something if someone else has it?

I do not necessarily think it's the wanting that's bad. What is bad is the cultural system that allows people to be without. The farther we have to fall the harder we fight for what we have, horde, and be selfish. We desire out of fear of not having. We fear to be homeless, we fear starvation, and we fear being ridiculed. We create ways of protecting ourselves; property ownership. We deny our neighbors rights to our property.

Wanting isn't wrong; not sharing is wrong.

Nothing wrong with wanting what others have, as long as you use that desire as motivation to work to get it...not expect someone to give it to you.

It is NOT wrong to want "it", but how you achieve getting "it" is entirely another matter. Unless it is a totally unique set of conditions, anyone can achieve what someone else has, should they put for the effort.

Because you should learn to enjoy what YOU, yourself already have.
