In my country(Japan), there is still stereotype, such as gangster, punk. Because of the stereotype, tattoos become an obstacle to success when people get a job or something like that.
Since I am an international student, I do not know how American feel about tattooing. Tell me if you have such a type of stereotype and how you think.

It depends on what generation you grew up in. I'm in my 40's and my generation had mixed feelings when it came to tattoos. Higher educated people didn't get tattoos as to the lower educated who thought it was cool and a form of expression. Today's generation, sees it as a form of art and self expression. You see them on actors, singers, white and blue collar workers. It all depends on how secure you feel about yourself. There is a section of people who still see it as trashy and lowlife. I'd rather see a tasteful tattoo, than all the piercings that is now seems to be the rage.

Higher classes of Americans see tattoos as low class, bohemian and heathen. American men see tattoos as a convenient indicator of either a diseased mind, or lack of sense of self. Women with tattoos are generally never long term players.
