I've been filing my claim for about three weeks now and they're still not arriving in my mailbox. Bill time is coming up soon. Doesn't the government care about our living conditions? If they don't send the money soon I will be in deep doo-doo with my living expenses. So! Can anyone tell me how long does it usually take?

Depending on when you file, you can wait up to 3 weeks, maybe longer for the first check. The bigest problem is that most weeks end on Saturday. If you were unemployed on a Friday, but waited until Monday to file, you may have lost 2 weeks time. You should have filed as soon as you were unemployed.

Also, check and see if your state offers direct deposit. Then, the check will be in your bank account at midnight, not waiting on our "wonderful" USPS to deliver, maybe....

In New York State they use debit cards instead of unemployment checks. It usually takes 3 to 4 weeks to get your debit card, then the money is automatically deposited each Tuesday.

Actually, the government does NOT care about the living conditions of unemployed workers!

We didn't even HAVE unemployment insurance until 1935, and that's because there were 20 million unemployed people (it was the middle of the Great Depression) and they were rioting, stealing food and getting into street fights when the marshals would try and evict them!

The government only cares about jobless people when we are rioting in the streets.

In Ca. there is a 2 week waiting period. Then you get paid every 2 weeks. They say you should wait 10 days from when a check is expected before you contact them.

I believe it takes about six weeks. And it's not about the government not caring... it's about your prior employer having to pay for a portion of the expense. It takes time to verify that you're qualified for benefits. Hope you find a job soon...
