Certainly it's not ideal for the fish, epecially because water is a very good conducter of sound.
Reducing the noise from the filter shouldn't be that difficult to do.

Pond and lake fish live in a different environment than stream or river fish. In a stream or river, there is constant noise and it carries a very long distance through water. In a stream water cascades over rocks and objects even waterfalls and the fish don't seem to be affected by those sounds. Fish from a lake or pond do just fine when introduced to a stream or river. High pitched vibrations though may be slightly different . I isolated my power filters (with motors) by placing rubber pads anywhere the power filter came into contact with the tank and I noticed a difference in the way my fish reacted to things. Remember that vibrations are transmitted to the tank through the floor as you walk and through the stand as well and fish seem OK with all that. Sharp impacts and high frequency vibrations seem to have an affect on fish. Drop a broom on the floor and the fish may jump on impact. Tap the glass and the fish will jump. So if your filter is a power filter - you may experiment with some sort of foam or rubber padding to minimize the vibrations but other sounds should be of no concern.

I can only imagine that the noise u r hearing is because u didn't fill the filter area up with water. If so, the noise u r hearing is the pump starving for water. Make sure water is flowing out of the filter and make sure the pump impeller is set all the way down into the pump housing. Also if it's water splash sound from the filter into the tank, fill tank up to just beneath the filter outflow.

No it will not kill the fish. The filter is just doing that because it is working. It will always make noise. Unless it stops working.

It shouldn't bother them at all. I'm sure whatever noise comes from the filter should be okay, because or else it probably shouldn't be used in your tank or even be sold. If you bought it and hooked it up right it should be alright.

No, it will not kill the fish. Filters do that sometimes.
