This is from the '40's. The title of the poster is 'Rosie the Riveter' and was an example of women working in war industries, doing work that previously only men did.

I believe you are referring to the 40s and Rosie the Riveter; women took over all essential work that had been performed by men during WWII when the men went off to war,

The lady was Esther Isreal, she worked in a Detroit plant making bombs and air plane parts during WWII. The quote given this picture is "WE CAN DO IT!" this was the motto for all the women who took jobs outside the home for the first time, to do their part in fighting the war. We didn't kick our leaders then, we stood beside them, that's why this country is still free. I wonder how long we will remain free....

Well...that was Rosie the Riveter...but it wasn't 50's!! she was WW II.....the original said..."we can do it"
