Reindeer (called caribou in North America) live in arctic and subarctic regions. Their bodies are adapted to extremely cold climates in several ways.

The nasal turbinate bones provide a much larger surface than southern deer's, warming the air before it enters the lungs, and catching the moisture from the expired air to moisten the incoming air.

They have hooves that change according to the season. The pads become soft and spongy during the summer, providing extra traction on the tundra; and the pads shrink in winter, exposing the sharp edges of the hoof to cut into ice and snow and prevent slipping.

The coat has two layers. The undercoat is dense and wooly, and the longer overcoat has air-filled hairs, providing insulation from the cold.

They fly Santa's Sleigh. See, there are not animals called reindeers. They are called reindeers because they are deer, they have reins and are flown by Santa.

They love the rain!! lol, no they are called that because they have "reins" on them. REins are like the handles that steer them. you cannot steer any wild deer, it has to be a reindeer
