Better protection in case of a crash, protects from road debris, usually waterproof and no laces to get caught in moving parts.

as the others stated over the ankle boots offer protection for the ankle joints in the event of a crash and from road debris. Also, boots have heavier tread which allows them to grip the road better than other shoes when the rider comes to a stop. If the road is damp, it can be very easy to slip when stopped if you don't have good footwear.

Not only do boots protect our feet and ankles in the event of an accident, they protect us from debris in the roads, as has already been stated.

Good boots protect us from possible burns from our pipes which get very hot and also offer extra support when we put our feet down at stops, etc....it's easy to turn an ankle on uneven pavement, or have your feet slip on sand.

I got into an accident last month, I got hit by a truck on the freeway. If I wan't wearing my nice alpine star boots, my shins would have been PUNISHED. That is one reason why we wear them, for protection. Also we don't want to mess up out nice shoes while riding, I usually carry them in my backpack.

Yeah the ankle protection is vital. A straight forward break in a bone such as the tibia or fibula usually heals fine. But broken ankles don't heal as cleanly and many people have trouble with them for the rest of their life.

good ans all. 1. heat, 2. ankle, prevents twisting, gives height off ground. 3. dirt, weather. 4 looks good with pants on. meshes well with other leather gear. 5.soles absorb shock from pegs and road, wears well better than shoes. Racers also use them thar knee sliders, and They shine. Work well with gloves, jacket, chaps, and the occasional leather pants. Makes an impression with the s&m crowd.

It is important to protect your ankles. I had to lay a bike down once and my jeans and jacket got shredded, my boots got torn up pretty good too but they protected my ankles fine.

I like the grip both on the ground but also on the pegs. My gym shows have a slick spot in the arch. It's annoying to have my feet slip on the pegs.

So if I lay my bike down I can possibly take my ankles home with me!

to protect our feet from debris. Also nice for when, not if, but when you lay your bike down.
