Is there a way to have an e-mail sent to you when something you want is up for auction instead of having to scan for it day after day?

Yes...

Post a Want It Now notice... and also a favourite notice.

Sellers will hopefully see your Want It Now advert and email you before putting stuff up for sale...

Or - if you 'Favourite' an item - by clicking on favourite - then eBay will email you when something similar goes up for sale.

I use both methods - and I have won LOADS of bargains!

search for items you want, add the item (or a specific seller) to your favorites list and check the box for e mail notification. eBay will notify you when similar items get listed or when a favorite seller lists new items.
