there are some (quote-unquote) "emo" kids at school, and mostly they all dress in clothes from Hot Topic or the like. Someone once told me "emos" were just expressing themselves, but how can that be if they all buy their clothes at the same store? Are they all depressed? Why do they wear black so much? Why do they dye their hair? Why do they wear way to much eye makeup? What is the difference between and "emo" and a "goth"? Obviously I have no idea...I must be missing something...

An entire subculture of people (usually angsty teens) with a fake personality. The concept of Emo is actually a vicious cycle that never ends, to the utter failing of humanity, and it goes something like this:
1. Girls say they like "sensitive guys" (lie)
2. Guy finds out, so he listens to ***** emo music and dresses like a dork so chicks will see that he is sensitive and not afraid to express himself (lie). He dyes his hair black, wraps himself in a stupid looking scarf, develops an eating disorder, and rants about how "nobody understands".
3. Now an emo guy, he meets Emo chick and they start dating, talking about how their well-off suburban lifestyles are terrible and depressing (lie)
4. Emo guy is just too much of a pussy. His penis is too small, he's too depressed to bathe, and has more mood swings than emo chick, and he doesn't even have a menstrual cycle. Emo chick dumps him, saying "It's not you, it's me." (lie) as she drives off with Wayne, the school jock and captain of the football team.
5. Emo guy goes home and cries, proceeds to write a weak song and strum a single string on his acoustic guitar. Another emo chick sees how he is so in touch with his feelings, and the cycle continues.
my opinion: they want attention. emos want to kill themselves, goths just hate everyone. theyre just really depressed kids.

No your missing nothing you just have a brain you said it your self they are expressing themselves but they all buy the same cloths same hair make up etc. It is just a trend like punk its a clothing style If you really want the answer to this watch a movie called SLC punk or Salt Lake City punk if your not 15 or older don't but if you are watch it and the ending to it will make a lot of sense if you put emo in for punk. Pretty much its a clothing style when It comes down to it. True emo's just cry about how life isn't fair. Yeah and.... Nobody understands me, don't you hang out with 30 kids that act and dress just like you? I could go on. Don't worry just be you do your school work styles don't matter much In the real world. Just be you.

Why are you asking this interior the R&S section? that must be a sub-sort of twenty first century selection pop that focuses on melodrama. as with the different sort of music, there's no longer any seize-all definition featuring all bands of that kind and excludes others that are no longer any further of that kind. The borders around genres of music are fuzzy, no longer discrete. yet as quickly as you pay interest to a dozen bands that are categorised as "emo", and a dozen who're no longer, you'll be able to get a typical theory.

emos and goths are diff. goth is more then emo and done cut themselves emos r not has weird then goths and are not always sad sometimes there a lil happy but i have emo friends and there like cuting themselves but that's what some do.
