Why is it so bad to be "Anti-American"???

Tony Blair is flapping his gums now about, and I quote, "the dangers of anti-Americanism". So some people in Britain -- in fact MANY -- don't like the USA or its citizens ... SO WHAT?????

The Americans are quite hostile in their feelings towards the French, the Germans, Arabs, Africans, Hispanics ... they even hate Canadians!! That's like hating a friendly, honest bloke who every one else likes.

The only reason the Yanks don't hate Britons right now is because Blair is kowtowing to their every need. If Britain had told Bush to go to hell when he asked for support in Iraq, they'd hate Britons just as much as Canadians, the French and the Germans.

So a lot of Britons are anti-American. Big deal!!

I suppose it's bad to be anti-American because you can't generalise about an entire continent like that. You can be anti-Bush or against his policies I suppose. But it's hardly "dangerous" to be anti-American. I can't believe Blair actually said that

Lets start with the fact that many Americans don't hate everybody else, but many feel they are in a state of war and the world is not supporting them. They are confused, about their own identity, who they can trust, even in their own country. They get screwed over by their own politicians. You can see the results in a revival of fundamental religion and conspiracy theories (like 9/11).
Furthermore there is quite a lot of arrogance towards the rest of the world, because many of them feel they are the best in the world, and tho whole world would still have been living in caves if they hadn't been there.

Great comments. The yankies out there will say don't generalise - what hypocrites they are - they generalise about other nations like Iraq etc and then start illegal wars on them. They are control freaks and war mongers - they are so trigger happy that at one point, they had killed more allies and their own than the enemy in Iraq - what a laughing stock they are. All the while, they thank the lord, ask god to bless america and show their cheesey over bleached white teeth in their false grins. Poor souls, they have an uneducated hill billy as a president.

getting the s*** blown out of it with the IRA? A large percentage I bet were
donating monies to IRA in NORAID collections, they have in the bars over
there.Then you get 9/11 and we all end up bending over backwards for
them.The above words I read in a paper a couple of months after 9/11 by a
british squaddie,he actually said they don't like it in their own backyard.

Being an American who lived in Brazil for a year, I can understant why we are not liked. Although the Brazilians loved American's when I went to school there, I would see American tourists and just be horrified at the way they acted and treated the Brazilian service industry workers. Needless to say, I avoided speaking in English whenever possible.

It is not Americans but Americanisation. IE the way Britain is becoming a little America. much of our TV, most cinima. etc.

We are now expected to speak American:

I totally agree, many Americans don't like the British anyway, they still think that we owe them a great deal, they are very racist.
