There are several commercial sites and schools often use turnitin.com, but as an instructor, I found just searching for random phrases in google often worked very well.

Pick a four or five word phrase from the paper and ther that within quotes on google. If found, search for a few more. In a short time, you'll get a good feel for originality of the paper.

As BigRez has said, pick a few quotes from the document and type them into Google (or even Yahoo! Search).

When you do so, put quotations around your query. That way the results that appear will match that sentence, should there be any matches.
