3 nuns have just moved into my street, two houses away from me, in fact. They chanted something incomprehensible for 5 minutes before they set foot inside their new home. They don't talk to anyone and behave very strangely. Everytime I walk past their house, I hear screaming and the sound of a whip. Are they really nuns? Is something sinister going on in their house?

They could be nuns who practice what is called 'mortification'. (see link)
They could have been chanting something in Latin before they went into the house, there are rituals to cleanse dwellings of evil.
