There are many different groups involved in the amazonian deforestation. The government of Brazil are wanting to become a more developed country and therefore turn towards the rainforest to make money. Some of the worlds best sources of iron and gold are situated in the rainforest..for example Carajas bauxite mine which caused deforestation of the mine site and transportation routes to it. The government wants to improve the transport links of Brazil, as shown by the transamazonian high way. Economically deforestation is the main source of money, the logging industry makes money from chopped down trees, agriculture- the slash and burn method is used for clearing areas of land in order to allow animals to graze here....taking 2 football pitches of land for one cow! This is a transinternational business where a fast food chain pays the country for the use of grazing land- the problem being the land gets used so much that it becomes infertile and nothing can grow there leaving it barron.

What you must bear in mind when talking about reasons is effects...how does this effect the rainforest and the country. The economy of Brazil is boosted however on a global level the deforestation leads to global warming. There are loads of effects that you will discover just thinking about it...i.e. the habitat of many animals are destroyed, the homes of tribes are also destroyed as are many tribes who have caught diseases from the white man...a term referring to the developers in the Amazon.

I am sorry...but those who are saying there are no reasons politically and economincally are wrong...as all geographers will tell you my friend...

Good Luck :-)

as much as the UK was mainly trees not so very long ago.
population growth and expansion.
this means more land is needed for living on and for farming, other ways of creating jobs has to be found.
one way being tried to help the economy and preserve the rain forests is the collection of the common butterflies and insects, these will then end up on the wall plaques you see worldwide.
countries will use natural resources at all times, they are either cheap to aquire or free, therefore profit is maximised.
political and economic, jobs and income.
