Yes, they do wash, care and treat the dead as they were living. With special care.
It not easy having this job, they also feel your pain as well as for the dead.
I myself wouldn't want it any other way.
Mortician will even ask for any pictures of the loved deceased, there for they style, and apply make almost as loved one did them self.
To help you very as best as one can through you troubled times.
In my eye's not is a Honor as much as a relieve to have consoled the loved who is left to carry on and grieve.

With many religions it's a religious ritual and cleanses the body for its higher journey. It's a good thing.
