As far as I can find out, the 2007 Academy Awards aren't being shown anywhere in Europe on "regular" television channels (with the exception of Ireland!!!). If you've got a satellite dish and access to Sky (Rupert Murdoch -- BOO! HISS!) then you can watch it in the U.K. On the continent, various countries are showing it on their pay extra movie channels (like Canal Plus in France, for example, or Film 1 in the Netherlands).
Even the local cinema multiplex which used to host all-night Oscar parties (with live feed and coffee and croissants at 6 a.m. or so when the ceremony was over) has been skipped over this year by Academy Award organizers.
Seems like the money guys want to make even more than usual!
Needless to add, all this totally pisses me off. The Oscars are an institution I grew up with (O.K., O.K., so it's frivolous, trite, superficial, whatever -- I don't care!). I'm angry as hell that they aren't being readily broadcast here.

Sky bought it up a few years ago. Terrestrial TV hasn't shown the awards in ages. It's stupid! Remember the good old days, when Barry Norman and Jonathan Ross did whole programmes on BBC 1?

Because unless you pay for sky movies forget it. Why should we have to pay to watch the Oscars, shocking isn't it?
