Match? No. Coordinate? Yes.
I would strongly recommend against trying to approximate the same color. In my opinion, that's overkill and you'll get sick of the room quickly.
Better to pick a color that coordinates instead. By that I mean either choose a different color in the same color family (e.g, tan with brown, slate blue with baby blue), or choose a complementary color that is different but doesn't clash (deep red with tan, sage green with brown, etc.). Try to match neutrals with neutrals, cool colors with like cool colors, and warms with warms. (Although mixing and matching when done correctly can be striking, if you are design-phobic or style-challenged, it's best not to try because a misstep can be ugly and expensive!)

no, mine don't...
My curtains are a dark lavender, and my carpet is crisp white...
MY curtains don't even match my walls! But i've seen enough makeover shows to know that contrast is good and besides there is a little lavender in my walls.

i have hardwood floors, but the answer is no... my curtains compliment the furniture and wall color, so when you walk in my living room, you dont see CURTAINS OR SOFA OR WALLS , you see a ROOM...
