True faith is something that people talk about, but is hard to define.
We define faith as a decision and habit of mind that takes us beyond the objectively provable, in any area. Thus it's faith that converts a solipsist into someone who believes that there are other people and things out there and acts on that belief. "Irrational" we define as "not open to reason". Some faith is rational and some faith isn't. It depends on the person, it depends on the area of belief and perhaps even the time of day, even for a single individual.
Belief in the objectively unprovable, rational or irrational, we define as a subset of faith.
Faith affects the character and life.
Belief can be maintained with or without action.
Faith exists only when it is integrated with action.

When you have a dream & that dream is made into a reality, that is faith. Faith in your dream, faith in your abilities & faith in the community. Faith is a substance of things that are believed & not yet seen. Faith in God for example, you may not see him, but around you things happen that are completely unexplainable, so you know it has to be God or your higher power as some would call it, that is faith. When you marry, you believe that that marriage will last forever. That too is faith. Whe you become a mother or a father, you believe that your child will grow to be the best they can be because you are going to be the best you can be. That is faith.

Faith is a belief, trust, or confidence, not necessarily based on logic, facts, reason, or empirical data, but based fundamentally on volition often associated with a transpersonal relationship with God, a higher power, a person, elements of nature, and/or a perception of the human race as a whole. Faith can be placed in a person, inanimate object, state of affairs, proposition or body of propositions such as a religious creed.
Faith is in action when you make yourself vulnerable
practicing what you believe.
Faith is not belief.
Belief is passive.
Faith is active.
"Faith is believing in things that common sense tells you not to."

I would joke and say the name of a dog the airlines lost with only two back legs but I digress:-)
But as others have said, Faith is a belief in something that something is true or can become true but have no absolute truthful proof that it does/can exist.
