I get really bad back pain as well when I start my period, pretty much exactly what your describing. I usually take advil, or put something hot on my back and stomach, a hot water bottle, electric blanket, even a towel put in the oven works.
hot baths are nice as well, or showers

Ok, kids, this is NOT normal. I can't tell you what an epiphany that was for me, when my doctor finally told me that. What you're describing is a CLASSIC symptom of endometriosis. If only I'd told my doctor about that, but I was too embarrassed. I just suffered in silence. Please, check it out. Endometriosis is when the endometrial tissue grows in other areas in the body, not just the uterus. In my body, it was growing on my bowels, bladder, etc. Good luck, and hopefully you'll get the answers you need.

It's very common, but it shouldn't be normal.

Used to hurt me so bad that I had to stay in bed for few days. Now I take daily multi-vitamins specially for women, it don't get the back pain anymore.
