I was wondering if anyone could recommend a book to me. I'm almost done reading Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. I'm really into history and mystery, but this is a new genre that I have just entered. Before I was reading books involving vampires and witches, or non fiction books about places. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

For fantasy, I would recomend Eragon & Eldest by Christopher Paolini, (the 3rd book in the trilogy hasn't come out yet). I also recomend the Left Behind series. For Historical fiction, I loved the book A Land Remembered by Patrick Smith. I also like some of Robin Cook's medical mysteries.

For history and mystery, try:
Susan Carroll's Dark Queen series
The Dark Queen
The Courtesan
The Silver Rose
Pauline Gedge
Lady of the Reeds
House of Illusions
^^I have read these books and they are great. Also, Philippa Gregory is a wonderful historical fiction author. If you are younger (I don't know how old you are), Lois Gladys Leppard is good, I read her when I was younger.
Here's a link to Amazon.com and all of their historical mystery offerings:

I'm not sure about history or mystery, but Anthem by Ayn Rand is a really good book. It's a Science Fiction novel set far in the future about the loss of self and identity and one man's struggle to bring it back.

My all time favorite book is "Swan Song" by Robert McCammon, it was written before Stephen King's "The Stand" has some similarities but it's a great book...not history but tons of Mystery.
I also loved "Lost Souls" by Poppy E Brite if you still like the Vampire stories.

Edgar Allen Poe is always a great read. And he invented the detective novel so you can start there. Agatha Christie writes some great mystery novels too. You can try Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes series too. I wouldn't recommend any Stephen King except The Dark Tower Series. :)

If you're into history and mystery, try "Sophie's World" by Jostien Gaarner. It's a really awesome book about the history of philosophy, which may sound boring, but it's not.

My favorite historical fiction books are by Edward Rutherfurd. His novels focus on a central location and trace it through the centuries. Sarum and London are probably my two favorites by him. They're very good if you like history especially if you like long books. They're very good at describing the society, the culture, the religion, the politics, the economy, the wars, the plagues, etc. His other books include Russka, The Forest, and two books on Ireland (The Princes of Ireland, Rebels of Ireland).

I would recommend anything by Margaret Atwood, "A handmaid's tail" or "oryx and crake" are good ones. there more dystopian than mystery.
The Stolen Child is also a good one. Something else that I found to bee a good book was Wicked, its a retelling of the Wizard of Oz from the Wicked Witches point of view (turns out she wasnt evil after all, more of a political activist.)
