Read the book first. Most of the time its better than the movie.It also exercises the mind,and you can become part of the book with your imagination...It is a great way to spend time with yourself..

I always prefer to read the book first, it's usually better; matter of fact, sometimes after reading the book I don't want to see the movie because I know that they couldn't do it justice.
