I was there in July and it was HOT AS HELL.
Spring Break should be fine. Go the the VietNam memorial, and go to Arlington National Cemetery. I thought the White House was a letdown.
HAVE FUN, and be careful!

As the Faerie noted, spring is cherry blossom time, which is nice.
Stay around the Federal Triangle area---the Capitol, the White House, the Supreme Court, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, the World War II, Korean War and Vietnam Veteran's Memorials, the Smithsonian, the Tidal Basin and much more all within walking distance.

I live just across the river. It is FABULOUS. You could spend 2 months here and STILL not see all that is offered you. The Smitsonian ( which has MANY buildings) is an ABSOLUTE MUST!!! Other great attractions: The Tidal Basin, Mount Vernon, The Monument, Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, The National Zoo, Georgetown, the nearby United States Naval Academy=awesome ( my beloved brother graduated in '65), FBI, the White House, the Capitol,etc....the list is endless. Bring all kinds of clothing...spring is tricky. If the humidity has set in, which is not likely, that early in the year, be prepared....it can be awful.
I hope you have a happy and safe journey to our nation's capital.
P.S. Make sure you visit Arlington Cemetery and witness the Changing Of The Guard......you will be awed.

see if you can go when the Cherry Blossoms are out, they smell so nice and look so great, and we all would love to see some pics where your standing in front of the cheery trees..
you go and see the museums, the monuments, the parks, the national church, go to the DC tourist web site and send for some info, but be careful, very careful, DC is not a friendly place at night in a lot of places
smile
good luck

We went there for Thanksgiving to the Smithsonian and it was really cool. I liked the part that has all the stuff from all the movies. I got to see the actual red slippers from Wizard of Oz and Ray Charles sunglasses. It was so awesome. They had George Washington's clothes too. I want to go back because we didn't have enough time in one day to see everything. They also had Archie Bunker's chair... there's just sooo much to see. I wanted to go to the zoo but we didn't have time.
Oh, and wear a good pair of shoes... lots of walking it was worth it though...

i used to live 60 miles from DC. it is very pretty to go there in spring, there are a lot of things to do and see. museums are great, the space center is great, lots of good food to eat. it is a very busy place though, so make sure you are with friends.

it's pretty neat there, scary, but neat. I went through the capital building and walked to the washington monument, and then walked to the lincoln memorial, I didn't have enough time to see everything. so I'll have to visit again sometime. Then we took a wrong turn and got lost. that was the scary part. accidentally going into the bad neighborhoods yikes.

What the hell would you want to go to DC for?!?! Especially for spring break. Well...it has lots of steep hills and that sucks for walking...its kinda dirty in some parts...traffic completely sucks so forget driving (please also refer to "hills and walking in DC")...and there are bums everywhere!! They are not shy ones either...up tourists butts for money.
