I don't think there is a right answer to this question. Cats and dogs are different and so it really depends on your own personality and what your are looking for in a pet. I am personally a cat person and I remember being drawn to cats from as young as 2 years old! I couldn't explain to you why though! I find dogs too boisterous and loud for me but it may be that that's what you're looking for. Dogs require a lot more care as they need to interact with their owner more. They demand more time as well as they need to be walked at least once a day if not twice. Dogs lovers will argue that they are very loyal and more fun than cats. Cats can be very loving as well but tend to be more independent and so if you have a busy lifestyle, they may be a better choice for you. Sometimes you can tell whether a cat/dog is the one for you as soon as you see them so why not go to a cat and dog rescue and see what happens! Hope this helps.

Cats by far. THEY are very independant and are loving. Dogs are loving too but need that little bit more attention i.e walks. I love all types of animals. I think that if anyone was to get an animal they would have to really think about it first. Ive grown up with cats so im more for them. i've got a cat and i go to work so cause they are very independant yo can leave them fr a few hours, but it wouldn't be fair to get a dog as i wouldn't get time to take it on regular walks and it would doody in the house where a cat would use a tray

Personally I prefer dogs (bitches actually) and have 2, cats are fun but very independent and tend to 'put up' with us humans whereas dogs rely on us for all their needs. A cat can be loving one minute, then not want to know you whereas a dog will love you all the time and listen intently to all your problems and secrets but won't tell another soul!
If you want a constant companion go for a dog, if you want an occasional friend get a cat!

I love both kinds of animals, they are unique and special in their own ways. To be a good pet owner for a dog though you need to home a lot more. Having a dog means taking on a huge responsibility. Cats are easier.

It depends on what you want from a pet. Dogs are definitely the most interactive. They are loyal companions. Cats are mostly disinterested. They can take or leave you. They probably feel little sadness if they are separated from you. A dog will mourn when they are apart from their owners and develop separation anxiety. Then, they will destroy stuff while you are gone from this anxiety. Thus, if you aren't home a lot, cats require a lot less care. They won't necessarily run to greet you when you come home. (Unless you forgot to leave food out.)

I count myself lucky to have lived closely with both cats and dogs and from my experience I can confidently say that neither of them is the 'best'. Both are lovely and very life enhancing! I would not be without an animal in my life.

Cats. They are:
cool, clever, sophisticated, independent, they can climb trees and walk along walls and fences, they are not big and clumsy like dogs (they have poise), they are more remarkable animals and intelligent. They don't need walking, they walk theirselves. They have more freedom as they can explore and interact with their environment more meaning that they have a happier life with less boundaries or limits and they do not take up as much space as dogs in the house.
Cats are beautiful felines.
And think about it what other animals are in the cat family: lynxes, lions. In the dog family:wolves and foxes.
