The young can become sexually mature long before you think. They can begin to breed as young as 4 weeks, so you are on the edge of it now. The best way to sex them is looking at the anal fin. Females have a fan shaped or normal looking anal fin. That's fin under the bottom of the fish Here's a picture of a female:

Males have a pointed tube shaped anal fin. Here' s a picture of a male:

Move any babies to the male tank as soon as you can tell it's a male.

It really depends on the type of guppy, some of them reach sexual maturity a lot faster than others. If you can see the pointed fin on the males, then they're sexually mature. I found that for me at least, the females were identifiable way sooner than the males. They showed a "gravid spot" at the base of their tail so I just took the females out and put them in their own tank. My fry are two and a half months old now and the males are starting to develop some really nice colors and most have their pointed fins (colors showed up a bit before the fins for the most part).

Very young guppies show no sexual differences. after a couple of weeks a gonopodium will form from the small fin on the lower rear part of his abdomen. Guppies mature sexually very early and at 6 weeks can start making babies. Once impregnated a female guppy can have many litters of young without any further contact with a male. If you plan to use females for selective breeding only virgin females can be trusted to produce the desired result.

before everything, its greater valuable in case you have greater women people than adult males. this way, one woman isn't the single the adult males continually flow to. From what i've got study, you may desire to continually make the thought any woman you purchase could in all probability be pregnant, because of the fact whilst guppies are born the adult males and ladies everybody isn't seperated(in many circumstances), as a result increasing the possibility of the female to be pregnant whilst offered. in case you opt to reproduce guppies, you may desire to make sure you have some issues available. different than for the community tank, you choose have a seperate tank (it would not inevitably could be a 10 gallon case in point, that's something like a 2.5 gallon, that's what I even have for my guppy on the 2nd.) you will additionally opt to have a good quantity of plant life available, so as that the fry (this is the guppy babies) could have an excellent sort of places to cover whilst they're born, and have some fry fish nutrition available for the babies. as quickly because of the fact the mummy has the fry, you may desire to do away with the female because of the fact she will eat her fry, and flow away the fry in a seperate tank. it is likewise no longer a foul concept to have yet another small tank available for the female to relax in for 24 hours formerly freeing her back into the community tank. be valuable to offer the female sufficient nutrition after start because of the fact she would be very hungry. do no longer launch the fry into the community tank till they're sufficiently enormous, in many circumstances some month or 2. yet another good guidline of whilst to launch the fry into the community tank is whilst they're greater than the different fish mouths (to lessen the possibility of being eaten.)

My guppies were barely 3 months old and were already breeding before I had a chance to separate them.
If you're trying to breed them: many water changes, warm temp, and a variety of food in their diets to keep them happy (frozen shrimp or bloodworms is good on top of fish flakes).
If you're not trying to breed them, separate the fry as soon as you can tell which are male and female! The easiest way to tell on guppies are their certain types of fins (specifically the fins pointing downward on their tummies). Males have very thin, longer fins and females have a more triangle shaped fin.

I think guppies are born pregnant
Before their sex becomes obvious they are pregnant and producing 30 or so at a time.
The males have a p@nis like protusion underneath them that points backward
Seperate the sexes as quickly as possible or you will be over run
Also the goody is that they can give birth 3 or 4 times from one mating so from one error you could end up with 120 guppies or even more
Have fun

Well, the easiest way to sex is looking at their anal fins. The males will have a rod shaped anal fin called the gondopodium... its their penis so they can fertalize the female internally.... So when you see babies getting this, move them. I have a baby in with 'mom' right now and he's trying to fertalize her. So as soon as you can see the gondopodium, move them to another tank.
The male fry can be in with the males when they get the gondopodium. There shouldn't be any problem with it as guppies are peaceful.
