If you pull out your washing machine, you will find a football sized hole either in the wall behind, or on the floor beneath. You must not get too close to the hole or the gnomes will eat your eyes out. Yes I said gnomes. They live behind your dryer and steal left socks and underwear and weave the threads of your lost possessions into designer scarves and sell them on the Black market. The only way to get rid of them is to poke a hole into a goose egg and place it into the hole behind the dryer. Leave the egg there for 43 days exactly. no more gnomes.

Under the bed, in the washer/dryer, inside any other clothing articles that may have been washed & dried with it, behind the washer/dryer, check pet beds if you have any, check under your covers if he got in with them on or if you made the bed and it could have gotten stuck to one of the blankets in the wash, check other pairs that have been put away (especially if the kids helped)... one thing is certain - you will find it in the very last place you look. Good luck!

If it was lost in the laundry, then 1st look carefully in the washer, & the dryer. After that look in every pantleg, & shirtsleeve of any clothing item that shared the load of laundry.
That's where some of my socks end up.

What we did to solve an prevent this problem was to purchase about 10 pairs of the same kind of sox. This way you can mix & match the sox with each other.

Is it still hanging up for Father Christmas over the fireplace. Check it out. Your man might think it's time that Father Christmas paid him a visit instead of the otherway round.

I think there's a sock fairy. Maybe the washing machine or drier eats them. You put two in and only get one out. It's like a bermuda triangle.
