For example: am german. yohoo, what a history.
So, but first I am european (for heaven sake , that´s much better)
From the tousand and one meanings of being british. Isn´t there any women or men who says Okay Firrst: I am british, then european .
Please help a puzzeled voice in the wilderness from the continent.

Hi there,
You ask all the questions i love to answer :)
I am from England. If someone asked me where i came from id probably answer England, Britain or the UK, Europe never comes to mind. I think its different for us living here on our tiny islands because although your not faraway there is an ocean between us :) I also think that Britain, politically and its people (although i know this is a geralisation and its just my opinion) are independent, we havnt adopted the Euro etc. I think throughout history Britain has almost always marched to its own beat so to speak and i think its probably just that we are not land connected :)
Come to our Islands and have fun! meet us and decide yourself, most British people are very hospitable and maybe as someone who is not an Islander you will have a better view from outside as to why we are the way we are :)
Peace to all from England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and N.Ireland and the rest of the world too :)
best wishes
Whitner

No, I'm not European at all. I don't identify with Europe or anything associated with it. European countries invaded and mixed to create the white British, but we developed our own culture that is so far removed from Europe. I've been to Belgium, France and Germany and they are all beautiful countries, I encountered lovely people, but the cultures are alien to me. In Britain we don't have the cafe culture, fashion, European ways etc I could see running through these countries. Slave of 12 Gods is very narrow-minded and I know the English history, but that was then. Myself and the English people now are not accountable for atrocities that arrogant past English caused. I have never considered the Germans Nazi at all and I loved it when I visited. Europe has nothing to do with me and Brussels is imposing all these laws which are overruling British laws, which isn't right or necessary. The Scots, Welsh and many English like saying who we are and have our own long and varied history. I don't hate Europe, but think it's a lot of bureaucracy and people foreign to me with the Europeans trying to rule us, when we have a democracy and a currency we're happy with. It's not arrogance, just that we'd like to preserve and keep our culture alive, but at the moment we're not that great and have much to improve on in the UK. I'm English first and British second, but never European. There is no affinity for me with Europe.

I am a Londoner. I am also West Indian, although i am second generation. Also English. I am so many things but why must i be confined to one?
even some 'Europeans' don't call themselves that. Anyway, it's a struggle for some people to call themselves British at the moment so let's just keep it simple for now!

To be honest with you i call myself English first , British second i do not call myself European . I think not many british people consider thereselves european , you have to remember we are an island to we consider ourselves detached from europe. And my friend call yourself german all our countries have bad historys but we cant live in the past dont be ashamed of where you come from what happened in history is not your fault. We all must learn from our pasts my friend to make a better future

You must remember that we are an Island Race and a former Imperial Dynasty. We English like to think of ourselves as "men of oak" not European lackeys!

I'm British born and bred but I've spent a good part of my adult life living elsewhere. Nowadays I don't really consider myself British, European or anything else. I'm just me.
I am pro-EU, but many British aren't. I don't know or care why. It's their loss.
